JSON to Excel

Convert JSON or JSON Lines to an Excel spreadsheet or CSV. Nested data becomes columns, lists can go to their own sheets, and a preview shows the result before you download.

Runs locally in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or saved.

How to convert JSON to Excel

  1. Paste JSON or choose a .json, .jsonl or .ndjson file.
  2. Check the preview. Choose how lists inside rows are handled and, under More options, how columns are named and ordered.
  3. Download an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or CSV.

How JSON becomes a spreadsheet

A list of objects becomes one row per object, with a column for every key found in any row. Columns keep the order in which keys appear. Nested objects become columns such as address.city.

Lists inside a row are joined into one cell by default, such as vip, newsletter. Choose Keep as JSON text to keep their structure, or Separate sheets to move lists of objects, such as order items, to their own sheet. Each row there starts with the row number of its parent.

An object containing lists, such as an API response, gives one sheet per list, and the remaining fields go to an Other fields sheet. Records keyed by ID become one row per key, and a list of lists is written as a plain table. JSON Lines files have one JSON value per line, and each value becomes a row.

Numbers, text and dates

Text, numbers and true/false values keep their types. Text such as 007 or +998901234567 stays text. Numbers with more than 15 significant digits, such as long IDs, are stored as text by default because Excel would round them. Whole numbers with 12 or more digits use a format that shows every digit.

ISO dates stay text unless you turn on date conversion. An Excel cell holds up to 32,767 characters; longer text is shortened in the .xlsx file and kept in full in CSV.

Excel or CSV?

The .xlsx workbook has every sheet in one file, a bold header row that stays visible while scrolling, filters and sized columns. Values are stored as data, never as formulas.

CSV is plain UTF-8 text for other apps and databases. Several sheets download as a ZIP with one CSV per sheet. If Excel shows everything in one column, choose the semicolon delimiter, which many regional settings expect.

Limits

Files and pasted text up to 100 MiB, up to 1,048,576 rows per sheet, 16,384 columns, 255 sheets and 100 nesting levels. Large files need plenty of memory; if conversion stops, close other tabs, try a smaller file or download CSV.

Where does my data go?

Conversion runs in your browser. Your JSON is not uploaded or saved by this tool. The site may record a basic tool view or a successful download, never your data.
