Audio Trimmer
Trim audio to the exact millisecond in your browser. Drag start and end markers on the waveform, listen to the selection and download the cut in its original format.
On your device. Your audio stays on your device. Files are kept only in this page session.
How to trim an audio file
- Choose an MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC, WAV or AIFF file. The waveform appears after a quick scan.
- Drag the start and end markers on the waveform, or type exact times such as 1:01.250. Zoom in to place a cut between two words or beats.
- Press Play selection, or listen to the first and last 3 seconds to check both cuts. Adjust and listen again until it sounds right.
- Press Trim and download. The file keeps its original format, and its name includes the range, such as song_[00.01.01-00.01.32].mp3.
Cuts that land exactly where you put them
Many free online audio cutters export a slightly different segment from the one you selected: you choose 1:01 to 1:32 and the file plays from 1:03 to 1:33. This usually happens with variable-bitrate MP3s, where browsers and quick cutters estimate positions from the average bitrate instead of reading the file. The further into the file you cut, the bigger the error.
This trimmer never estimates. The waveform, the preview you hear and the exported file all come from the same decoded audio, so the cut starts and ends on the exact sample of the times you choose. What you hear in the preview is exactly what you download, even in long podcasts and VBR MP3s.
Formats and quality
FLAC, WAV, AIFF and ALAC (Apple Lossless) are trimmed losslessly: the audio is bit-for-bit identical to the original. MP3, AAC, OGG and Opus are re-encoded at a similar bitrate, because cutting a compressed file without re-encoding can only stop at frame boundaries about 26 ms apart. Tags such as title and artist are kept, and so is cover art in MP3, M4A and FLAC.
AAC has two codec limits. An M4A file may end with up to 23 ms of silence, never extra audio, and a raw .aac file always starts with 23 ms of encoder silence.
Make ringtones, clips and podcast excerpts
Cut a 30-second ringtone from a song, remove silence or ads from the start of a recording, extract a quote from an interview or shorten a voice memo. Loop the selection to check that a ringtone or a music loop repeats cleanly.
Limits
One file at a time, up to 1 GB and 3 hours. Video files are not accepted; use an audio-only file. Very large files depend on the memory available on your device.
Where does my audio go?
Nowhere. The audio is decoded and trimmed in your browser, and nothing is uploaded. The audio engine is downloaded once and then cached by your browser. The site may record a basic tool view, never your audio or its name.
